Suppliers training workshop

IBLF Global and Hoan My Group deliver the suppliers  workshop on compliance and risk management

18 November 2022

IBLF Global and Hoàn Mỹ Group (HMG), the largest private hospital group in Vietnam, delivered a two-day workshop on “New approaches to enhancing the effectiveness of compliance and risk management” for the hospital’s top suppliers and procurement managers. This was the next phase of our joint project with the Chandler Foundation - “Promoting Business Integrity in the Healthcare Sector in Vietnam”, initiated in September, 2021.

The training workshop was conducted with several key objectives. It aims to 1) improve awareness of suppliers on corporate governance and business integrity; 2) provide practical resources and tools on corporate risk and compliance management; and 3) encourage the suppliers to become an example of business integrity for other in the healthcare sector in Vietnam to emulate.

The workshop was attended by HMG top suppliers, all Vietnamese private companies of various sizes predominantly in the healthcare business. The participants are mainly owners/CEOs, sales and senior managers mostly from the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

The workshop started with a welcoming speech from HMG Group CEO Mr Dilshaad Ali Bin Abas Ali. He restated HMG’s strong commitment to business integrity and readdressed the importance to share this value with partners and stakeholders. The Group CFO, Mr Erwin Debaere, elaborated on HMG’s values, mission and vision. Mr Brook Horowitz, CEO of IBLF Global, illustrated the international dynamics of anticorruption and global standards on business integrity.

Ms Vu Thi Phuong Lien, IBLF Global Training Expert, took the participants on a journey of business integrity, corporate governance, compliance and risk management. The workshop included two interactive breakout sessions and two plenary discussions which enabled frank and open exchanges between the participants. Concerns raised included risks such as the impact of the pandemic on unreliability of supplies and how to manage suppliers behaving unfairly or unethically. For example, an international supplier failed to honor the product warranty because of delivery delays caused by COVID.

We are pleased to see, according to our pre- and post-surveys, participants had gained a better understanding of the subtleties of business integrity management. A very positive signal from our feedback survey is that participants valued the workshop and expected regular training. For several of the suppliers, the workshop marked a new departure in the journey to conduct business with integrity. Provided with useful theoretical materials and the ability to exchange best practices with HMG and the other companies, the suppliers seemed keen to make new efforts to raise their business and operational standards.
