IBLF Global speaks at ethiXbase and American Bar Association

25 August 2021

On 25 August 2021, ethiXbase and the American Bar Association (ABA) Rule of Law Initiative jointly organized the “Business Integrity in Small and Medium Enterprises - Corruption Prevention and Risk Assessment” webinar. This webinar aimed to provide a platform for business integrity stakeholders to discuss resources, innovations, signals of progress, and future directions of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Southeast Asia, with a focus on corruption risk management and third-party due diligence.

This webinar was moderated by Ms Nichanee Wongba, Mekong Regional Legal Adviser at ABA Rule of Law Initiative, and was participated by a number of national and international anti-corruption experts.

Brook Horowitz, CEO of IBLF Global, delivered a keynote speech at the webinar regarding anti-corruption and business integrity in Southeast Asia. In recent years, there are some positive outcomes in the region in adopting international and national anti-corruption legislation. However, concerns still exist about how can the international toolkits, resources, and materials reach SMEs at the regional or national level. Brook further raised three key questions for the discussion: how related these toolkits, resources, and materials are to the SMEs, how to distribute them to the SMEs, and what is their impact.

This webinar went further with presentations and discussions on corruption risk assessment, supply chain and third-party due diligence. Interesting discussions were around the role of companies - who were always looked as a risk, not as a matter of law, as a question of what are the right things to do, rather than what are the legal things to do, and how to elevate sustainability in the supply chain.
