Exporting with Integrity: Institute of Export World Trade Summit 2017

October 8, 2017

Brook Horowitz, CEO of IBLF Global, spoke on "Exporting with Integrity" at two World Trade Summits hosted by the Institute of Export in the City of London and in Cambridge. The theme of the conference was Mitigating Risks post-Brexit. A report from the London event can be found here and a video from the Cambridge event here.

“The very markets which British companies are being motivated to expand into are the emerging and developing markets, many of which, according to the latest WEF World Competitiveness Report, have corruption amongst the most problematic factors for doing business. In fact it is possible to do business in these countries without compromising a company’s ethical principles or ruining its reputation. This can be achieved with the right mix of knowledge (understanding of local business culture, choice of partners, analysis of risks), process (a rigorous approach to compliance both in-house and with local third parties), technology (investment in new technologies such as Big Data analytics to detect and prevent fraudulent activities) and above all a corporate culture promoting integrity within the company and in its markets. Exporting with integrity is often viewed as naïve especially in these challenging markets, and companies often resort to risk-management and compliance as purely defensive strategies to protect the company's reputation. In fact, with the right combination of technological and human resource, and a strong and visible commitment to incentivising ethical business behaviour, exporting with integrity can be transformed into a competitive advantage.”
