ASEAN dialogue on sustainable public procurement

IBLF Global facilitates the ASEAN dialogue on sustainable public procurement

28 October 2021

The ASEAN dialogue on sustainable public procurement was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through its FairBiz project. Brook Horowitz, CEO of IBLF Global and Business Integrity Advisor at UNDP, facilitated the session "A Look into the Future of Procurement".

This session started from an interesting perspective. Imagine you are in 2030, most of the SDGs have been attained, in part thanks to major changes in how public procurement has been regulated and managed over the last decade. Looking back at a certain Procurement Dialogue held by FairBiz in October 2021 which convened the main players and inspired new and innovative thinking, what were the two or three key recommendations of the Dialogue that set procurement in ASEAN in the right direction to reach these goals?

This topic raised hot discussion among the panelists. Panelists shared their ideas on how to take public procurement and related efforts to the next level to better achieve the SDGs by 2030. They discussed the lack of transparency of emergency procurement under covid-19 situation and the insufficient political will in reforming public procurement system. A number of key recommendations were made to achieve the transparent, fair, and sustainable procurement.
